Apoorva Garg

As a woman navigating the complexities of Indian society, I am deeply aware of the social stigmas and pressures that restrict my freedom and individuality. In my paintings, I explore these constraints—whether personal or imposed by societal expectations—through distorted, uncomfortable postures that reflect the tension between my inner self and external forces. The women I depict are, in part, my alter ego, but they also represent the collective experience of women in India today.

Through self-portraits and various mediums, I portray the resilience, strength, and defiance of women as they navigate the complexities of identity, resistance, and transformation. While my work acknowledges the progress made in the fight for gender equality, it also highlights the ongoing obstacles that remain. My aim is to foster dialogue, challenge perceptions, and inspire action toward a more just and equitable future. ”
