Shekh Hifzul

Born and raised in Chhattisgarh, Hifzul was very influenced by local folklore, traditions, and everyday life. The visuals, textures, and people around him continue to influence his work and imagery. His recent works are a critique on socio-political spheres and a conscious provocation to think about nature — its significance and its relationship with our lives. His practice is also an attempt to understand the ruptures in modern life and to rediscover our rituals and the values that have been forgotten over time. Hifzul tries to create visual conversations that encourage reflection and awareness. The figures and forms in his work often emerge from shared human experiences sometimes humorous, sometimes contemplative, but always rooted in observation and a lived reality.

Over the years, he has exhibited widely across India and abroad, including at the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, Art Heritage at Triveni Kala Sangam, and India Habitat Centre, as well as in shows in Bangkok and Singapore. He is a recipient of the Senior Fellowship (2023–25) and Junior Fellowship (2008–09) from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and the Garhi Scholarship from Lalit Kala Akademi. At its essence, Hifzul’s art reflects the world he inhabits its people, contradictions, humor, and silences. It is his way of observing, questioning, and connecting with life around him.
